The Green Grass Snake strikes again

Best Time to Fish the Snake

Fresh off a Great experience from the FLW Championships, I had a lot of people asking me” what is the best time of day or the best way to fish the Snake” It has been my experience the Snake can be fished ANY time of day and in any way you wish.

Top water action is of course my all time favorite way to fish the snake, seeing it slither across the surface WITH a 4/0 hook in it and STILL acting like a life like snake, there is just nothing better. But we must also keep in mind, one of the biggest threats to a bass is a Snake, just for the simple fact that a snake can and will invade a bass bed and clear out the eggs, for this one simple reason, when a bass sees a Snake it WILL instinctively attack. Just knowing that one simple fact tells a person that YES, you can Carolina rig the Snake, put a slip sinker on or even peg the weight to the nose if you so chose to.

There are simply NO limitations to how you can rig the Snake, I have even in some cases set the Snake up as a drop shot rig and have some great success with it. Take your time and be patient, and most of all hold on tight for some very aggressive strikes.

My best times for fishing the Snake has been between 11am and 3pm , that's right, in the heat of the day. I have caught 90% of my biggest bass in the middle of the day, a fact that has been well documented and constantly talked about by Doug Hannon himself. Another good and VERY important aspect of fishing the Snake is to remember how a Snake acts in the water, it moves SLOW and very methodical, when you see a Snake in the water it is only moving fast because he has seen you and is trying to escape you, but in reality, if you can visually watch a Snake and how it moves in the water it is always moving slowly and with a purpose, and only moves fast when it is threatened. So keeping that in mind you WILL have great success with the Snake and stand a much better chance at catching that bass of a lifetime.
